Let’s Play

Come to my house, go through the gate down the path and up to my door – you’ll have to knock because it’s one of those open from the inside doors. Once inside we can decide what we do, where we will go – will we find delight in a stairway cranny, or out in the bush – dry and smelling of pine. You choose your toys – I mine – we play till the sun goes down and I am left wondering if I want to return home or stay with you for dinner. Such is our life, dear – we invite each other in from the inside – we have fun deciding what we will do and what games we play with each other – we choose our toys and get lost in the play until we come to natural end points and take a pause – go on together? – or go home for the night? Sometimes, sometimes what you really want has already been decided for you deep in your heart and you are only playing out the drama you wrote all along – we are an actor on the stage of our own Shakespearean story – and so it is with us – never thinking our way any more – but listening into that heartbeat that is steadily drumming this and that – the clasped hands – the skin on skin bodies, the eyes that have change appearance time after time - with you on the couch, my hot toddy in hand and a new universe springing up around you like the room suddenly has become a jungle and you a rare creature in its care. So carefully now – the heart is tender, strong and wise - but requires listening to – not falling asleep to its constant drum drum rhythm – we fall into step, fall out of step – call our friends asking for letters so you can stay – and all the while tend to our own universes inside us – pulling us in all directions, wanting to be free, wanting for fun, scary, life – all pouring out all the holes to drain this sinking boat that has finally made it to shore.
