45

Forty five turns around the sun.

Forty five lives lived in one life.

My mother be blessed, my father thanked.

I came naked into this world and naked shall I return.

Before I was born, my heavenly father knew me - knit me together in some dark place.

From the earth I came and to her I return.

The sun rises and will set - going down into this mother earth.

I am a little life birthed into a much bigger landscape.

I take my short breathes and live as best I can.

I cry and rage, and sing and dance and make love.

The earth is my witness and she has witnessed a lot.

Alone and alive this day, the day after my daughter made cinnamon sugar donuts at 6am to bring me great joy.

This day, as the sun fills this wooden house with deep orange, yellows - utter warmth and splendence.

This day, after grievous dreams of a love that never came to pass as I’d hoped.

But this 45 - the only one - the saving grace of a new day, and I will just breath it all in.
