Awkward Orchid

They still bloom she exclaims

Still beautiful after all these months of life

with the dying

and the living

With everything that came

between us and everything that

pulled us apart

Their scent

the intoxication of our life

their white brightness

like starched table cloths

promising a good meal

Life gives us these gifts

that keep on giving to us

season in

season out

You do not look a day older

I could watch you face for an age

Just watch.

And sometimes look

to see if there is something deeper I can catch

And then, to behold you.

For beholding is a different

kind of looking

To behold you lovingly

THAT is the way of us

the way I always want to see you
