Persuasion

(Tim) Finn wrote this song that brought me to tears when I heard it live a few nights ago - talking about being undone on the floor in front of his love - I immediately felt the kinship - all the great songs about love now mean something to me - and some people can go on their whole lives without knowing that they fell deeply and utterly in love with another.

You could also fall completely for a work, a vocation, a place or a child. It doesn’t matter - just that this wholesale giving over of yourself to this ‘other’ is a seeming necessary breakage - a tearing down of ego sufficient to permanently crack you - so the light gets in in more and varied ways.

I am a walking broken vessel - stuck together with gold seams. I breathe wet air on my cave walls and drop like rain from fern fronds high in the bush clad mountains.

I become ocean

Tears that know neither their own end and beginning - becoming one with that great briny being - that terrible and turbulent current that will carry you far, far away from your comfort and from your paid for house, your quiet marriage.

Open the doors of your heart wide and let it be a haven for birds, mice and the smallest scurrying creatures. Hold each one quietly and calmly and in so doing become a tree of life for the earth - one of her minions - gratefully received into her fold.
